Job Description

SUMMARY:

Responsible for supervising and coordinating activities of employees in the communications department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership:

  • Coordinate all activities in the prayer center as directed by management.

  • Develop professionalism, efficiency, and the right attitude within the department, emphasizing to each prayer partner that this is the goal of the department.

  • Lead as a professional, by example, through appearance, dress, attendance, and punctuality.

  • Assist prayer partners through instruction, encouragement, and correction when needed.

  • Observe and monitor prayer partner assignments and phones.

  • Delegate assignments to team leaders/prayer partners.

  • Reinforce chain of command in leadership.

  • Ensure safety and security of department.

  • Work overtime as needed.

Communication:

  • Assign staff to check voicemail daily.

  • Update staff on changes in procedures, programs, and all other areas of the department.

  • Distribute Whats Happening scripts.

  • Answer questions of team leaders, prayer partners, callers, and donors.

  • Review mistakes and errors with prayer partners by using on the job training techniques to help them minimize mistakes.

  • Document disciplinary actions.

  • Supervise, advise, and work closely with trainer concerning individual prayer partners ongoing training.

  • Place new prayer partners after training is complete.

  • Exercise good listening skills and sound judgement.

  • Assist communications department management in instructing prayer partners in the function of the phones and computers when requested.

  • Assist communications manager with balancing timesheets.

Supervisory:

  • Directly supervise up to 34 employees in the communications department.

  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws; including but not limited to interviewing, hiring, training, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining of employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to co-workers.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to understand and carry out written, verbal, and demonstrated instructions.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Work alone and as part of a team.

  • Perform repetitive work.

  • Be vigilant and concentrate.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers, and to multiply and divide by 10s and 100s.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Physical activity includes, but is not limited to: opening, pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, reaching below waist, reaching waist to shoulder; repetitive motion wrist, hands, arms, and/or fingers when using computer; standing, walking, stooping, and kneeling.

  • Required to sit much of the day; occasionally required to stand.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:

  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
