Job Overview

The Litigation Paralegal is responsible for: supporting First Liberty Institute’s legal team in protecting and restoring religious liberty in the United States; assisting with key aspects of legal cases and documentation; working diligently with volunteer attorneys and clients; representing First Liberty Institute in a professional manner.

Job Description:

  • Support the legal team in daily tasks such as processing mail/faxes, scanning documents, filing casework (in hard copy files and/or electronically on the server)
  • Assist in answering and transferring any calls or emails to the attorneys
  • Manage the legal team’s daily and weekly calendar for the organization
  • Provide assistance to other employees, as needed
  • Assist with improved policies and procedures
  • Assist with management of interns
  • Proofread documents
  • Maintain and update reports of speaking engagements and directory of volunteer attorneys
  • Schedule potential client interviews/communications with attorneys
  • Schedule and screen attorney speaking engagements
  • Book travel arrangements for the attorneys
  • Screen potential case inquiries from the website, emails, and/or phone calls
  • Conduct legal research, check facts, gather client information, and complete case paperwork
  • Track and meet case deadlines
  • Organize and file all documents and information relevant to a case
  • Keep track of attorney hours through Document Management System to ensure accurate recording of attorney time
  • Keep accurate records of attorney expenses per case for proper reporting to court
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of pleadings and briefs
  • Schedule potential client interviews/communications with attorneys
  • Provide support to the Media Director on case details, as needed
  • Distribute attorney reminders
  • Draft correspondence and discovery

Job Requirements

  • College degree and/or paralegal certification preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a litigation paralegal or legal assistant
  • A firm understanding of the defense of religious freedoms
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to engage and serve a variety of attorneys and clients; Works well dealing with all personality types
  • Working knowledge of legal jargon and current laws
  • Sets goals and initiates implementation and follow through
  • Capable of managing and implementing a variety of tasks in a fast paced and challenging environment
  • Able to handle security-sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to understand state and federal law regarding preparation and filing of legal documents
  • Strong organizational skills for tracking case information
