About the Role: The Employee Engagement Director manages the overall support of Human Resources services, policies, and programs for Mercury One and its employees. Major areas of responsibility include recruitment, on-boarding and talent management; performance management; compliance; policy & procedure development; employee relations; training and employee development; compensation and benefits; and employee engagement. The Employee Engagement Director partners with the leaders and management of the company to implement all people-related services, policies, and programs for the organization.

Essential functions

• Consult with management regarding employment needs and department structure. Develop staffing plans and a consistent hiring process to facilitate required recruitment

• Serves as a contributing member of the Executive Management Team

• Refine or create job descriptions, manage the interview process, and assist in determining appropriate titles and pay levels for offers

• Oversee the on-boarding and orientation process for new hires

• Develop policies and procedures and revise Employee Handbook, as needed, to ensure most recent and relevant information is always available to employees

• Work with managers to deal effectively with employee performance. Assist in developing goals and insuring performance review processes are conducted, as well as developing appropriate disciplinary procedures which are fairly and consistently applied

• Be knowledgeable of and ensure that the organization complies with all state, local, and national employment laws, including enforcement of the organization’s Non-Discrimination, Non-Harassment, and Non-Retaliation policies and procedures

• Manage employee complaints, any required investigations, and resulting disciplinary or other actions taken as a result of findings. Coordinate these activities, as needed, with the Executive Director &/or appropriate manager

• Work with employees and managers to maintain a positive and respectful Employee Relations work environment, with the fair and consistent treatment of all employees. Be open and available to discuss employee issues, evaluate facts, maintain objectivity and confidentiality, and recommend the appropriate actions needed to resolve issues

• Consult with management on their employee training needs, and identify appropriate resources, coursework, or other training opportunities to meet employee development needs, and develops succession plans

• Develop and conduct employee surveys on a regular basis (at least annually) and/or gather feedback following major activities that will capture employees’ level of satisfaction with the organization, their jobs, and management, as well as any areas of concern.

• Manages the employee benefits program, including interaction with providers, plan provisions, and employee enrollment.

• Verifies and processes non-exempt employee bi-weekly timesheets

• Plan and carry out employee events, celebrations, recognition & reward programs, promotional activities, meetings, and retreats. Work with management and employee teams to develop, as needed

• Manage employee termination process for any employees that leave the organization, including tracking of turnover, exit interviews, severance or outplacement provisions, unemployment claims and hearings, and required benefit programs

• Collaborate with Executive Director to review employee feedback or issues, research efforts, current policies or programs, in an effort to continuously evaluate the effectiveness of each in supporting the growth and development of the organization

• As Employee Engagement Director, support and model the organization’s mission and values as essential characteristics expected of all employees

Required education and experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or Business Management preferred

• 5 to 7 years of progressive Human Resources experience; prior work experience in a non-profit or religious organization very desirable

• Must be proficient with PC, MS Office software, other regular office equipment, and online tools.

• HR Certification preferred (PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM- SCP)

• Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

• Outstanding interpersonal relationship-building skills, with the ability to coach and counsel both managers and employees, while maintaining a high level of discretion and confidentiality.

• Demonstrated ability to serve as a knowledgeable HR resource and business partner to the directors and management team.

• Knowledge of employment laws and practices on a local, state, and national level.

• Excellent organizational management skills with detail orientation.
