SUMMARY:

Sorts envelopes, opens envelopes, codes documents and operates keyboard to enter data into computer by performing the following duties. Assist in the processing of deposits: cash, check.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Sort mail according to envelope type, BRE, white, Interoffice.
  • Count and batch BRE and white mail.
  • Prepares interoffice mail for distribution.
  • Open, read, code mail using a machine or manual process.
  • Enters alphabetic, numeric, or symbolic data from source documents into computer following format displayed on screen.
  • Reads letters and determines routing or proper coding.
  • Verifies accuracy of data to be entered, makes necessary corrections.
  • Receives currency, coins and checks. Compares amounts recorded on batch card with data displayed on computer screen to be certain batch total balances.
  • Deposit checks and money orders using a desktop banking software program.
  • Enters batch information into the database to create batches.
  • Ability to Work Overtime is Essential
  • Any task deemed necessary by supervisor.
  • Assists in Mail Center projects
QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Type 35 wpm
  • 10 key calculator by touch, 20 kpm
  • Computer skills
  • Listening and comprehension skills
  • Mechanically inclined

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to co-workers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • The ability to understand and carry out written, verbal, and/or demonstrated instructions.

  • The ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Work alone and as part of a team.
  • Perform repetitive work.
  • Be vigilant and concentrate.
  • Ability to work overtime is essential.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Physical activity includes, but is not limited to: opening, pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder.
  • Reaching below waist, reaching waist to shoulder; repetitive motion using wrist, hands, arms, and/or fingers when operating mail opening equipment, computer and sorting mail.
  • Listening and talking with co-workers.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, or kneel.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
